Do I need an appointment for a pregnancy test?

  • Appointments are recommended but are not required.
  • We want you to have the best experience possible. A walk-in is perfectly fine, however, scheduling ahead will lessen your wait time, allowing us to give you immediate one-on-one attention.
  • Our medical clinics are occasionally closed for staff training or meetings. Booking your appointment will ensure you come when our medical clinics are open to clients.

FAQs

What is a pregnancy test?
  • A pregnancy test checks your urine or blood to determine if you’re pregnant.
  • It’s essential to recognize that anyone with a uterus and ovaries (regardless of gender identity) can become pregnant if they’re having penetrative sex with a penis.
How do pregnancy tests work?
  • Pregnancy tests detect a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). Your body produces HCG when a fertilized egg attaches to the wall of your uterus (usually about 6 days after fertilization).
  • HCG levels rise rapidly, doubling every 2 to 3 days.
When should I take a pregnancy test?
  • For at-home tests, wait until you’ve missed your period or take one around the time of your expected period.
  • Blood tests can be done earlier, but most people opt for urine tests initially.
  • Here at SMPCC, we only offer urine testing.
What if I already have a positive pregnancy test?
  • You will need proof of a positive, medical-grade pregnancy test administered in a medical clinic.
  • Proof of pregnancy from a doctor's office is required to schedule a confirmation ultrasound with our medical staff. Our confirmation ultrasounds are administered by a Registered Nurse, trained in limited obstetric ultrasound.
  • Don't worry, all of our services are free and confidential, including our pregnancy testing. If you do not have proof of pregnancy, we can retest you at your appointment.
  • You do not need to waste your money on at-home tests or doctor visit copays for pregnancy testing.
