What Should I Expect From My Ultrasound?

When can I have an ultrasound?

Our medical staff will discuss several factors that help schedule your ultrasound. Our policy requires a positive, medical-grade pregnancy test from a doctor's office. If you do not have proof of pregnancy, we offer free pregnancy testing at all our locations and will be happy to test you. Same-day appointments are often available. Walk-ins are welcome, but we recommend scheduling your appointment with our staff beforehand. We want you to have the best experience possible allowing us to give you immediate, one-on-one attention.

Who can come with me?

We welcome you to invite 1 - 2 people to your appointment for support. We encourage the father of the baby, however, you don't have to bring anyone to your appointment. If you are a minor, check out this link to learn more about your rights to receive our free and confidential services without parental permission. My Rights

Privacy and Power

Your ultrasound appointment with SMPCC is your appointment. You have the power to include or exclude anyone you wish. If you are feeling pressured to make decisions concerning your pregnancy, by anyone who is coming with you to your appointment, don't worry. There will be privacy with your nurse before anyone is invited into your ultrasound experience. Be honest with our staff so that we can empower you to calmly, and safely, think through your pregnancy questions. The power of ultrasound gives you several important pieces of information:

  • Is this pregnancy viable, meaning is it uterine or possibly ectopic? This is important information for your health and will save you the expense of an ultrasound at a doctor's office or an abortion facility. An ectopic pregnancy can be fatal and requires immediate medical care at your local emergency room regardless of who performs the scan for you. Save your money, call us first.
  • Gestational age: If you are considering abortion, knowing the gestational age of your baby determines what type of abortion you might be eligible for. Call us first.
  • Baby's heart rhythm: Our ultrasound machines can measure your baby's heart rhythm as early as 5 weeks.
  • Confirmation ultrasound can provide powerful clarity when considering your options. Choosing between abortion, parenting, or adoption for your baby can be confusing and stressful. Abortion is a permanent choice. We want you encouraged, empowered, and educated concerning all options that are available to you.
